We are absolutely delighted to buy a Le Havre (pictured) colt who we have named Surrey Thunder, who we bought with the help of Steve Hillen Bloodstock at the Arqana Breeze, the same combination that bought us Surrey Hope !

Le Havre was a great horse, especially at 7-8f, winning the Prix du Jockey-Club (Group 1) and the Prix Djebel where he smashed the Maisons-Laffitte track record.  On the sire side, his grand dam is a half sister to the massively influential Polar Falcon. His sire Noverre was the champion 3 year old miler in Europe in 2001.

We would think that 7-8f is a good distance to start, but there is staying influence in the dam side including the great hurdler Zarkandar and Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe winner Zarkava.

He is in training with Joe Tuite and already we are seeing signs that he could be a very nice horse indeed. His debut, under an easy ride, was extremely eye-catching, third against more experienced horses at Sandown despite getting badly boxed in.

He backed that up in the next race with a fine win at Windsor under a powerful Oisin Murphy ride.

Now a three year old Thunder looks better than ever, and that was evident in his first run of the season, a close ‘nose’ second in a listed race at St Cloud, followed up by a third place in two Group 3’s at Parislonghchamp and Baden-Baden. These were followed with a 5th in the 150th Group 1 German Derby, and fantastic first Grade win for Surrey Racing when he stylishly won a listed contest in Clairefontaine.
