we are delighted to announce that we have bought a store horse to go into training with Nicky Henderson. We wanted to add to our NH horses and who better to train our next horse than Nicky, who has done such a fantastic job with Gran Luna and made everyone at Surrey Racing feel so welcome. Our instructions to Nicky were similar to those for Luna in that we wanted a horse who was forward and would be ready to run in the spring. As a syndicate we only have so much patience!!

The horse was lot 659 at the Goffs Land Rover Sale, which although an Irish sale was held in Doncaster due to the Covid restrictions. The link to his pedigree is below and a photo is attached.

He is an unnamed gelding by Milan.  For those who don’t know Milan, he was a classic winner, winning the St Leger in 2001, before heading to Belmont for the Breeders Cup Turf, just getting pipped by Fantastic Light. He is one of the leading NH sire’s and a particular favourite of Nicky’s, with his top offspring trained by Nicky being Santini, who came 2nd in this year’s Gold Cup. He also sired Monalee, who came 4th and other big race winners include Jezki, who won the Champion Hurdle, and Grand National winner One For Arthur. Not a bad record!!

Nicky saw the horse early on the first day before the auction began and having discussed him with the Consignors, who he knows well, decided he was one of the few horses at the sale he wanted. Nicky is particularly impressed by the way he moves and his notes from the sale refer to the horse being “athletic”, “bouncy” “strong” and “energetic”. He settled in well during his short time at Seven Barrows and has now been sent to Jane Allison’s pre-training in yard in Swindon to be broken-in. He doesn’t qualify for the Goffs Newbury Bumper as it was an Irish sale, so the target is the Goffs Land Rover Bumper at the Punchestown Festival in April, where the prize money is Euro 60k plus a brand new Discovery!

He cost £50,000 plus the usual commissions, vets fees and transportation and we will be selling 10 x 7.5% shares for £5,200 each, with the usual monthly fees of £225 payable from 1st September. Nicky bought 12 store horses at this year’s sales and just as he did with Gran Luna, feels this horse is the right one for us as he is one of the most forward, combining an excellent physique with a good attitude.

Would you please let us know if you are interested and we would be more than more than happy to arrange a visit to see him before you commit. Likewise, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to let us know,
