Le HavreWe are absolutely delighted to buy a Le Havre Colt from the Deauville Breeze Ups, two years on from when we linked up with Steve Hillen and Joe Tuite to buy Surrey Hope. We worked with the same team again and pin pointed lot no 68 as the one we wanted, but with strong bidding all day we didn’t really think he would stay within our budget.

We were pleasantly surprised and we have an absolute bargain here, he breezed well, was a great walker around the ring and a pedigree that is full of black type.

Le Havre (that’s him in the picture) was a great horse, at 7-8f, winning the Prix du Jockey-Club (Group 1) and the Prix Djebel where he smashed the Maisons-Laffitte track record.  On the sire side, his grand dam is a half sister to the massively influential Polar Falcon. His sire Noverre was the champion 3 year old miler in Europe in 2001.

It’s as a sire now though that Le Havre has really excelled, siring 18 stakes winners, and has a 10% Black Type performer to runners ratio, seeing his sire price rise from E7k in 2014 to E60k this year. He’s one of the most sort after sires.

7-8f is a good distance to start, but there is staying influence in the dam side so maybe a step up to 10-12f eventually. There’s also plenty of black type in his pedigree including the great hurdler Zarkandar and Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe winner Zarkava.

Now en route back from France he will first go out to field for a month and then will then go into training with Joe, who, as always, will be patient, although we expect at least two runs later in the season.

Shares are a bargain at £4,900 so get in touch while we still have some left, especially now that we have entered him into the Criterium de la Vente d’Octobre at Longchamp in Paris at the Arc festival !
