    biography

    Flat Trainer

Following a childhood in racing from childhood (his father owned and bred horses including three classic winners), Hugh took out his training licence in 1997 – since then he has trained over 850 winners.

Hughies first winner was his second ever runner, shortly after he had attained his licence. Since then Hughie has trained Champion Sprinters, (SAKHEE’S SECRET AND PASTORAL PURSUITS)Stayers, (ALCAZAR, MARMELO & NEARLY CAUGHT) as well as a limited number of top National Hunt horses (FRENCHMAN’S CREEK, MARBLE ARCH).

His greatest training feats have been winning the July Cup twice, training the oldest ever Group One Winner in the U.K., Ireland and France in ALCAZAR. In addition, he fondly remembers the day TOM PADDINGTON won, having had four years off due to injury.
