11th October Update

Not a great deal to report on this week.

100% of the Surrey Bolt owners have decided they wish to give Bolt every chance to rehabilitate and hopefully return to action next year. Bolt will be gelded this year and then it’s going to be a long process of recovery. The longer he has to recuperate the more chance of success, we are all going to have to be very patient.

Surrey Lord and Kevin Brogan had their first foray over the bigger fences this week in a schooling session. Lord jumped ok, a little slow to pick up after the fence but not a bad starting point. He’ll have plenty more practice before a novice handicap early in November.  Stable mate Hillsyde Hope is moving better after the bungee work and all going well, we will see him make his debut in a bumper in November.

We are looking forward to seeing the owners and the horses at Lambourn next Saturday, there will be 19 (at the last count) of us in attendance so please be on time and look to car share up to the gallops.

Surrey King is now back doing slightly more than his last 4 weeks of trotting, while Surrey Moon is doing some flatwork in the school, plenty of lunging and polework to get him to strengthen and improve coordination to get him ready for cantering which he will start in about 2 weeks’ time.

The Tattersalls Book 1 sale was last week, and three of the most expensive yearlings in the world were sold and by the time the sale ended on Thursday, there were still several more millionaire lots. The overall turnover was on a par with 2025 at 126,516,000gns. That was achieved through the sale of 352 yearlings, 43 fewer than last year. At 230,000gns, the median was up by 10% and the average of 359,420gns represented a rise of 12%. At this elite level, a clearance rate of 85%, better even than last year’s 83%, is remarkable. It will be interesting to see how the lower-level fares but certainly at the top end there appears to be a continued appetite from Godolphin, Coolmore. Amo and all.

Have a super week ahead and we are looking forward to seeing a few of you on Lambourn next Saturday.
