End of May Update

Another quiet week goes by at Surrey Racing HQ but the rain has arrived, and Surrey Shadow is set to run at Sandown on Thursday in a class 3 handicap over a mile, with Neil Callan again on board. The race currently scheduled for 8.40pm, the last race on what looks to be a fantastic card. There are 4 Grade 1s including two Group 3s, The Henry II Stakes has been won by the likes of Double Trigger, Persian Punch, Big Orange and Quickthorn and The Brigadier Gerard has an even more impressive list of winners including Hukum, Bay Bridge, Lord North, Regal Reality, Time Test, Western Hymn, Mukhadram, Workforce, Bosra Sham. Opera House, Commanche Run and my favourite horse of all time, Mtoto. Some other exciting news with Shadow, he has an entry into the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot, although he would have to win this week to get a 5-pound penalty to stand a chance of making the final field (as well as softish ground). Hopefully, a good performance could see us dusting off the top hats!

His stablemate Surrey Moon is well after his gelding. We do have a 5% share available in him after a change in circumstance for one of the owners, who is looking to get back what he paid for the share, £1850, If you are interested in taking that stake in a two-year-old who should be racing early in the summer then please do get in touch. We also have 3 shares left in Surrey Etoile and with an owners visit scheduled for next month, if anyone is interested in buying a share, come along and see the set up in Chantilly, a beautiful place.

Surrey Fire is also ready to run and could be racing at Chelmsford next Sunday in a valuable (£30k prize pool) class 4 handicap over 14 furlongs, scheduled for 4.15. Unfortunately turf options are limited to June 14th at Sandown and we run the risk of the weather turning dry again in the next few weeks, he’ll certainly get an entry tomorrow. Surrey King is recovering well although given his size and scope he won’t be rushed.

No change with the NH horses, they are all on summer holidays.

The breeze up season has concluded and we haven’t bought a horse, Tom didn’t think there was any value to be had as average ‘breezers’ were being sold for 6 figures. We’ll be active in the yearling sales later in the summer.

Good luck to the owners of Surrey Fire and Surrey Shadow, it’s going to be nice to get back racing again this week.
