No Dousing of the Fire Flame!
Surrey Fire recorded his second win at Lingfield with another pillar to post victory. Jockey Kieran Shoemark was already full of confidence winning the first race on the card and was clear with his plan for race no 2 which he executed to perfection. Fire, in blinkers for the first time, broke well from the inside stall and set some pretty fast early fractions. Kieran managed to settle him down in the back straight, knowing that when he kicked into the home straight he would have a strong tail wind to propel him on. There was no letting up as Surrey Fire recorded a pillar to post victory, easing down to win by a comfortable 2.5 lengths, in fairness it was never in doubt.
The blinkers, the drop back in distance, and the front running tactics were all contributors to a change in fortune and a much improved performance. We look forward with confidence to more of the same before the season ends.
