We were delighted to buy Surrey Force at the Arqana October Yearling Sale with the help of Anthony Stroud who thought he was the best value purchase of the whole sale. Surrey Force’s pedigree has a mixture of staying and sprinting in it but judging by the mare’s first progeny we’d expect Surrey Force to excel over middle distances. The sire, the late Le Havre, French Derby Winner in 2009, has been one of racing’s best sires, producing Group 1 winning horses such as Wonderful Tonight, Villa Marina, Suedois, La Cressonniere as well as Listed winner Surrey Thunder and the talented Surrey Knight.

The mare, Murviel, is a full sister to Laurens, the superb Group 1 winning horse who was rated 117 at her peak. Murviel has already produced a winning progeny with Belarga winning over 2900m in Amiens in October.  

Surrey Force will go into Kevin Philippart du Foy in Newmarket. Kevin is one of the country’s top young trainers who we feel will reach the very top and in just two runs with Surrey Mist improved him by an astonishing 15 pounds! 

Surrey Force made his debut at Kempton at the end of 2023 coming 7th, just 5 lengths off the more experienced horses over a distance (1 mile) that was less than optimal. He’ll return in 2024 over further and is one to note for the coming season.
