Easter ‘24 Update

Happy Easter !

Isn’t it nice to see some sun this weekend after all the rain we’ve had in the past few months. Unfortunately for those in need of vitamin D it looks to be a fleeting visit as the start of the new month brings along more proverbial showers. Thankfully most of our horses will enjoy cut in the ground so April promises to be an extremely exciting month for most of the syndicate owners.

It does feel the month will gather pace as we tick the days off, starting slowly this week which should see entries for Surrey Quest and Surrey Force, the following week we hope to see Surrey Force endure the tight turns of Lingfield. Force will certainly learn from running on a different type of track, after which he’ll receive his handicap mark and we can start planning his turf campaign.

It’s from the middle of the month where the action really starts to crank up with Surrey Noir returning, an owners morning at Kevin’s where Surrey Mist would have joined his stablemate and the start of the Breeze Up sales with the Craven Sale in Newmarket. At the end of that week hopefully we will have one of the highlights for any racehorse owner, a possible trip to Ayr for Surrey Quest for the £200k Scottish Grand National. (Quest was dropped 2 pounds by the handicapper this week to an OR of 133).

The last week of April we could see the debut of Surrey Shadow and the return of Surrey Charm. We will also bring you news of the three horses who will be scanned in the month (Surrey Fire, Surrey Mist and Surrey Lord) as soon as we receive the updates from the respective trainers. Of course, as we are sometimes painfully aware, so much can go wrong before then so fingers crossed.

As you are aware we are travelling to the Arqana Sale in May hoping to buy a Breeze Up horse and some of the owners will be joining the trip over. However, we will be looking at the French Bred horses who go though the ring at Tattersalls and Goffs in the preceding weeks, it keeps our options open especially considering the failed visit to the sale in Deauville last autumn.

There has also been a positive response to play in the 2024 SR Golf Competition, trainers Charlie Fellowes, Tom Clover and Billy Aprahamian have all signed up. There’s still room for more so do get in touch. I enjoyed my warm weather golf training last week, but as a high handicapper, I do know I’m a firm ground specialist so hopefully Silvermere has dried out by mid May!!

A quiet week ahead, the calm before the storm?
