January 21st Update
Some good news this week as Surrey Mist’s scan was positive, although a caveat is that Kevin would like the original vet to see the scan and confirm the news. Mist will start walking from the end of the month, before trotting and then cantering by mid April. All going to plan (and there’s still plenty that can go wrong) he’ll be ready to run again sometime in June. Fingers crossed for smooth progress and we see him back on the racetrack soon.
This week the excitement will build for Surrey Quest’s appearance at Doncaster in the Great Yorkshire Chase, a Class 1 Premier Handicap over 3 miles for a £100k pot, which will be the biggest prize money any of our NH horses have ever run for! Everything so far has gone to plan for Quest, he seems to have come on for his win at Newbury so for are hopeful of a good showing in what will be a very competitive race. The race itself is probably a little short than optimum so anything in the top 6 will be some achievement compared to where he was this time last year, it’s great for the syndicate owners to be involved in such a big race, live on ITV!
He looked a picture at Epsom this week no doubt visualising the final few furlongs of the long Doncaster straight.
In other news, Surrey Charm and Surrey Belle will move back into training at the end of this week after their break at Culworth Grounds and we look forward to seeing them with Surrey Fire at the owners visit later in February.
No additional news on the others.
We still intend to buy a horse to be trained by Tim Donworth in Chantilly, and with that in mind I will be visiting the Deauville Breeze Up Sales with the breeze, a 2 furlong times gallop on the Thursday 9th May and the sale on Saturday 11th.
