Surrey Thunder victorious at Windsor

The owners went to Windsor full of confidence after Thunder’s promising debut at Sandown, knowing that any improvement should be good enough, a fact that was represented by the betting with Thunder the even money market leader, despite being the 2nd cheapest horse in the race.

Oisin kept him handy in a slowly run first 5 furlongs, and then he kicked on and took the lead with 2 furlongs to go. The fast finishing Good Birthday threatened but Thunder ran on well for a decent win. The 2nd and 3rd horses cost £300k and £500k, showing once again we have bought well.

The owners really enjoyed the media coverage afterwards, plus the thrill of re watching the race with champagne in the Windsor ‘winners tent ‘!

Surrey Thunder was a little on edge going to the start, and lacked the concentration needed to settle in the race and see out the distance, he’s still young and will be fine once he matures, but that was his last race for the season. He’ll have a rest and come back into training in the new year.
