June 28th Update

It has been a challenging week for both horses and staff in the extreme heat, so news is understandably a little thin.

Our National Hunt horses, Hillsyde Hope and Surrey Lord, are both very well and enjoying a relaxed summer in the sunshine. Meanwhile, Toby and Clare have been busy preparing for their upcoming move, with the big day now fast approaching. On 6th July, the horses will relocate to Neardown Stables in Lambourn, where they will be based for the next year while the Lawes family build their own yard. Thirteen horses will be making the move, including our two, and they will resume light work from 7th July. As is typical at this time of year, plenty of road-walking will form the backbone of their exercise programme throughout July. With a smaller team required at the new yard, Toby and Clare have had to recruit carefully, as several staff based in Surrey understandably wished to remain there. They are delighted with the team they have assembled. Abby Freshwater returns after spending a year gaining valuable experience as Head Girl with leading Flat trainer Ed Walker, while Ben Evans joins the team bringing a wealth of knowledge and expertise. We are particularly pleased to welcome Abby back, not least because she is also the new owner of Surrey Quest. There will also be some continuity, with Kevin Brogan remaining as the yard jockey. We wish Toby, Clare, their team, and most importantly our horses, every success as they settle into their new surroundings.

There is no significant news to report on the other horses at present.
