Our first grey, introducing Surrey Mist.

The sire Kendargent is one of those feel good stories. He wasn’t super talented as a racehorse, a group placed Miler (4th in the Group 1 Jean Prat his best performance) and he started his stud duties at only €1000 per live foal. However, he’s been a revelation, and in 2011 was the French first season champion sire. Since then he has gone from strength to strength siring the likes of Morando, Skalleti and Goken, and now commands a fee of €17k. The dam, Kindly Dismiss, was a Group 3 4th , and listed placed, with a best RPR of 98, this is her second produce. Her first foal has been super consistent, winning one race and being placed a further 4 times from 7 runs.

Surrey Mist made a nice debut over 7 furlongs at Sandown in July, despite running very green he stayed on well to finish 6th (of 11). On his reappearance in 2022 he stormed home in a novice at Lingfield over 10 furlongs and followed that up with an equally impressive win at Kempton. He’s came a close 2nd in the London Cup at Newbury before two solid runs at Ascot including at the Royal meeting.

Surrey Mist has now moved to Newmarket trainer Kevin Philippart de Foy’s yard where he made a dream debut for Kevin and Danny Muscutt, winning impressively in a competitive class 3 handicap at Windsor. Mist followed that up with arguably Surrey Racing’s best performance winning the Listed Prix Vulcain in Deauville in some style. There will be some decent Group Racing in 2023 which started with a 4th in the G3 Prix Exbury in March. Unfortunately on his return to UK racing he lost a shoe and part of his hoof in the Group 3 John Porter at Newbury but put in a much improved performance at York. Unfortunately with a he suffered a ligament injury and is undergoing rehab and won’t be back until the Spring 2024.
