Surrey Belle is a Golden Horn filly we bought with the help of Anthony Stroud (Godolphin’s main buyer) at this year’s Baden-Baden yearling sale (the same sale that offered this years Arc winner). She is in training with Hughie Morrison near Lambourn.

The sire Golden Horn was rated 130 after an amazing 2015 winning the Epsom Derby, the Coral Eclipse, The Irish Champion Stakes and the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, and then narrowly just missing out in the Breeders Cup. The Dam, Al Reem finished 4th in 2 Listed Races and earned a best RPR of 98 and hails from the mighty Monsun line. Al Reem has already produced a winning daughter from her only runner so far. Surrey Belle is bred to be a tough filly who will need time but she already has an aura about her and will most probably excel over 12 furlongs. She will also qualify for French Premiums.

Surrey Belle’s training has been going well and according to plan but she is a big filly who will need time so she didn’t make her debut until January 2023 as a three year old. It was a solid first start at Kempton running green but strongly to finish 4th followed by being over keen at Salisbury and again at Kempton. She has learnt and off an opening handicap mark of 64 ran a very respective 2nd place at Ffos Las, backed that up with a very close 3rd at Sandown, before a 3rd at Ffos Las. At the 8th attempt she finally settled enjoying a lovely ride from Clifford Lee and went from stalls to post in first place to win tidily at Wolves. We can’t wait for 2024!
