Surrey Noir is a Dream Ahead colt which we bought with the help of Anthony Stroud  (Godolphin’s main buyer) at this year’s Arqana October yearling sale. He is in training with Charlie Fellowes in Newmarket.

The sire, Dream Ahead, was a brilliant sprinter from a fast family. As a two-year-old he was officially rated the equal of Frankel after winning the Prix Morny and the Middle Park Stakes. As a three-year-old he was successfully campaigned at sprint distances, winning the July Cup at Newmarket and defeating Goldikova in the Prix de la Forêt. He was named Europe's Champion Sprinter at the 2011 Cartier Racing Awards. In 2019 and 2020 he produced more Group 1 winning sprinters than any other European sire. The Dam, Model Black, won twice and was placed 17 times. She has had 6 foals, one of which, The Black Album, has already won a Group 3 in Paris.

Surrey Noir made a very solid debut in March ‘23 at Kempton, looking very much at ease with racing, followed by a very close 2nd at Chelmsford and then not handling trhe firm ground at Doncaster. After poor run at Leicester (dirty scope) he was given time to recuperate, and then was desperately unlucky to be beaten by a nose at Kempton in August. He went one back over course and distance with a impressive win in September. Upped to a rating of 75 and following a season where he wasn’t out of the first 5 in 7 runs Noir is taking a well earned break. He’ll strengthen and we expect more wins in 2024.
