Surrey Charm is a Havana Gold filly we bought with the help of Anthony Stroud (Godolphin’s main buyer) at this year’s Tattersalls Somerville yearling sale.

The sire, Havana Gold, was a speedy tough miler, winning a Group 3 at two and then the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat at three and is the grandson of the legendary Galileo. The dam, Stacey Sutton, has so far only had one runner who has already won and this month contested a Group 3. Surrey Charm is a half sister to Mambo Nights an OR 99 rated colt, and a half brother to the very impressive Stromberg, as well as being in bred with Galileo’s damsire Miswaki. Charm is also a half brother to Stromberg who has classic aspirations in 2024.

Following three novice runs where Surrey Charm didn’t really perform as we would expect she has been given an opening mark of 58. Charm has had a much needed break especially after the vet at Langshot Stud picked up on a few stress related injuries which hadn’t been made apparent. She returned back fitter and stronger in the hands of Hughie Morrison winning her handicap debut in some style at Chepstow in July under a great ride from Billy Loughnane. Hit by the handicapper she found the opposition tougher in her next two races before a fine second in the mud at Nottingham. She’s on her winter holiday now and will return on the turf in 2024.
