A Golden Day !

Surrey Pride had already battled hard to victory earlier in the afternoon at York so owner celebrations were already underway when Surrey Gold entered the stalls under David Egan for the Casumo Proud To Sponsor British Racing Handicap, a class 4 handicap over 11 furlongs. From a wide draw our Hughie Morrison trained 3 year old broke well but David held him up to move across the wide Newbury course and sit at the back of the field. Gold was always travelling well and as the pace increased David nudged him through horses to the front. Gold started to wind up and then whoosh - he showed a tremendous turn of foot to absolutely decimate the field with David looking around at the 1 furlong pole to see where the other horses were! He eased off but Gold still prevailed by 6 lengths, a super performance and what an brilliant across the card double for the syndicate owners.

The handicapper won’t be very lenient, but we’ll take our medicine and look for the next race, possibly Royal Ascot but he’ll need soft ground wherever he runs. The stretched target could be the St Leger, on that showing, the racehorse owners are really living the dream.
