Pride Prevails at York

Surrey Pride has really wintered well and after a couple of small setbacks the syndicate owners traveled to York for the class 2 Matchbook "Best Value" Exchange Handicap over 10 furlongs. On paper it seemed a very competitive race and so it seemed from the off but James Doyle settled him into midfield tracking the leaders and gradually moving closer as the race progressed. With three furlongs to go it looked like Irish Admiral was cruising but Pride battled gamely to repel all challenges to win by over a length from Makram and Irish Admiral, What was particularly noticeable was how long it took The Doyler to pull Pride up, he’s a powerful beast in full flight.

Cue syndicate celebrations in the winners enclosure, live on ITV racing, an interview with Oli Bell and a national TV prompt for Surrey Gold in a later race at Newbury which duly paid off!

It’s been a great training performance from Joe and the team and we look forward to seeing what the handicapper thought of the race. Epsom on Oaks Day is probably the next step before a return to York for the John Smiths Cup in July.

A great day, a great racecourse, us owners will be back!
