Gran Luna Wins Again !

Gran Luna won her third race from only four starts at Chepstow on St Georges Day under a uncomplicated ride from Tom Cannon. Sent off the 11-8 favourite for a class 4 mares novice hurdle over 2 miles, 3.5 furlongs, Tom made sure she stayed handy tracking the leader Miss Tara Moss for virtually the whole journey. Gran Luna’s jumping was a bit messy, probably not helped by the earlier slow pace but she’s such a talented horse that she has more than enough about her to win tidily. Tom asked her to quicken three flights from the finish and she readily drew upsides and then pulled away to win by a comfortable 4 lengths.

Tom’s feedback after the race was that she seemed to handle the less than ideal (a little too firm) ground ok, and that the distance was perfect, although he thought she would strengthen as she gets older and probably want further.

It’s a fantastic achievement for a horse who has been beset with medical issues but hopefully she can out those behind her and be a force to be reckoned with next season where she will almost certainly go novice chasing.
