Marley Firth finishes 2nd at Chepstow

Marley was bottom weight for the Interbet.com Handicap Hurdle, a Class 4 over 2 miles / 3.5 furlongs, with Rex Dingle claiming an extra 3 pounds to help the cause.

From the off Marley settled well and led at his own pace, jumped superbly, and had a fair few of the other 11 runners struggling in the heavy ground. He was still leading at the last but unfortunately found one better, Alan King’s Loverboy who stayed on to win, but Marley trounced the rest to finish a superb second and reward his very patient owners. I’m sure a few of them had some each / way money on him when he opened up at 40-1 the night before!

Marley will now probably head novice handicap chasing which should suit him better than hurdles so hopefully one better next time.

A great opener for Surrey Racing and we hope for a lot more to come in 2020.
