Surrey Thunder places in Group 3 race

To beat all bar Slalom and Syrtis was a great achievement, especially as I’m sure the front two will go on to be Group 1 winners in due course.

Joe Tuite had Thunder looking the pick of the paddock, and with Oisin Murphy re-united we were hoping to be competitive. The ground was a little firm for his liking and he lost balance in the home straight as the pace quickened, but he recovered well to run on strongly to finish a gutsy third.

Oisin gave us his thoughts after the race sharing he definitely thinks he’s a Group 3 or even Group 2 winner.

We feel the German Derby which is 1m 4f Grade 1 race and typically consists of Grade 3 horses and a couple of Grade 2 horses to be the target. To win a race like this he will certainly need some cut in the ground but if it was Good to Soft or Soft he would have every chance.

The German Derby is often forgotten but the best chance of winning a Group 1 and serious prize money. He’ll have a short break and a warm up race at the end of May, either at Goodwood, Longchamp or Baden Baden.

Exciting times ahead for surely the best turned out owners!
